exploring the world while cultivating our creative souls

Hi there!  We are Jill and Chris!

In October of 2017 we flew south from Canada on a one way ticket, headed out into the unknown.  Our first destination was Costa Rica, where we had a 2 month housesitting gig on a remote beach.  Beyond that, we had no plans.

Since then we have lived in numerous countries and on 3 different continents!

If you would like to follow along on our journey, click the link below to head straight to our YouTube channel.  We are also active on our Instagram and Facebook pages! Jill also writes on Medium where she posts daily about past and present travels, things learned on the road, and life experiences.

Thanks for following along on our journey!

We love to travel!

We both feel like travel feeds our souls.  There is something about meeting new people, learning about new cultures, and exploring around every corner of new towns and countries, that really feeds our adventurous and curious natures.

We don’t travel through places quickly.  Instead, we aim to try and stay for at least a month (preferably 3 months!) in each place that we visit.  This amount of time allows us to really dig in and meet people, learn about the cultures and habits of the locals, and feel like we are part of a neighbourhood and a society.

We paint murals!

SPREADING LOVE THROUGH ART

As artists, our number one goal is to continue to cultivate our creativity whenever possible.  This has lead us to a few different mural jobs where we have added our artistic touch to hostels, restaurants and even houses.  We really enjoy the mural process, love to paint on a large scale, and it brings us great satisfaction when we know that our artwork will be enjoyed by many for years to come.  If you have an idea for a mural, send us a message!  We will come to you!

We love food!

One of our favourite things about travelling is sampling and learning about the local food.  Every country has it’s own unique flavours and we just love to try them all!

We eat lots of street food, try to ask questions and learn how to make the local dishes, then we head home and try to recreate the dishes with our own twists.

From shopping at the local markets, to sampling as much street food as we possibly can, we aren’t satisfied until we have immersed ourselves as much as we can in the local culture and the good eats.

We even have our own Nomadic Kitchen that we bring along with us! Click here to learn all about it!

We are volunteers!

While living in our last town on the West Coast of Canada, we turned our backyard lawn into a lush garden oasis.  We built all of our own soil out of composted leaves, seaweed, sheep manure and all manner of garden refuse and compostables.  Since then, we have spread our knowledge to others who hope to build rich garden beds, and we have also volunteered to work at a Botanical Garden and on a couple natural building projects.

We are happy to contribute to any project that is sustainable for the environment. This includes eco-building projects, garden maintenance and creation, learning how to compost, and other worldwide cleanup projects.

We are both physically fit and skilled in construction, landscaping and gardening work, and we are happy to add our artistic touches to your projects.

We housesit!

We have taken care of many pets and a few different houses as we have travelled around the world.  We take great pride in taking care of animals, and managing the household while the owners get their own chance to take a vacation.  It’s a win-win for both us and the owners as they leave their house and animals in capable and responsible hands.

We have now taken care of Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Ducks and Chickens while housesitting, plus many others in our past lives while growing up and working around animals.

Check out our reference section to hear owner’s perspectives of the jobs we have done.

We mostly housesit through House Carers.  View our House Carers profile here.

We are humanitarians

On June 30, 2021 as we were painting murals in Kikorongo, Uganda, we learned that the nearby village to us was quite literally starving.  We immediately jumped into action and put out a plea to our friends in Canada, and beyond, to send us money so that we could help them.  Within 12 hours we had raised $3000 and were able to bring them food and water the very next day. (WATCH: Feeding A Village)

We ended up staying in that area for 6 months and between private donations and a GoFundMe page, we raised over $20 000 CAD in total during our time.  Meanwhile we brought them food and clean drinking water for 10 weeks, paid for medicines and medical treatment, helped a man get life altering surgery, helped a man rebuild his burnt down house, and taught the villagers about composting, soil building, seed saving and many permaculture techniques.

During this experience we quite simply realized our purpose.  Helping the villagers of Kikorongo opened something up in us that we didn’t even know existed.  We now know why we left Canada all those years ago, and we look forward to many more years of doing this important work.  We hope that we can help may people to create resilience and sustainability for themselves in these very challenging times that we find ourselves in.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow mindedness and many of our people need it based sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable accounts of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all ones lifetime.”
